A bookworm who dreamed of being a writer growing up says slipping on a pair of stripper heels in her senior year of high school changed the course of her life.
Sara St Clair, 32, went on to be an English major with a degree in journalism but she also became a stripper who eventually married a sugar daddy. She is now known as an adult star with an alter-ego called ‘Hardcore Barbie’ but last year she published her first fictional novel called Romance Costs Extra.
And the mum, who calls herself a “real-life MILF”, spoke on the Get Schooled Podcast about how she transitioned from being a school nerd with a “really bad stutter” to a racy performer.
She said: “It started honestly in senior year of high school dancing. I put on stripper heels, went on a pole and I liked being naked so that is kind of how it all started.
“And from there I did the usual suggardaddy.com thing and nude modelling, fetish modelling and at that point I am like, ‘Well I am already naked on camera anyway, people have seen me on the internet, so I might as well go ahead and do the whole thing’. I got into porn in 2016 and have been off and on throughout the years and I have just wrote a book and here we are.”
Sara lives in Birmingham, Alabama, and gave a blunt insight into the adult industry and said she would make a financial loss if she went to LA to film with big production companies.
However, despite deciding to work from home to raise her son, she has been nominated for Mainstream Venture of the Year at the 2024 AVN awards for her new book.
And speaking to Marcela Alonso about the title, she revealed how it was inspired by a sugar daddy she married after university.
She said: “I married my sugar daddy because how cliche as f*** is that? But he was cool with me f***ing around with other dudes so I was on suggardaddy.com or whatever and there was one dude I would hang out with and I came home one night and I am like, ‘This guy wanted me to pretend I was his girlfriend and hold his hand and kiss him’.
“So one night I am home with my husband and I am like, ‘This guy wants me to pretend to be his girlfriend, doesn’t he know romance costs f***ing extra’?
“My husband looked at me and was like, ‘That is going to be the title of your book’… so then fast forward six years later and here we are.”
The books is her “pride and joy” and is about a girl who purses sex work and it is influenced by Sara’s own experiences. Sara’s ambition is to now write more books and become a media commentator so she can explain the adult industry to the public and humanise the women involved.
And last year the blonde bombshell spoke to Daily Star about why she was so relaxed performing on camera.
She told us: “I wouldn’t trade it. I love the attention and I get off to being watched. Plus, have you seen how hot some of my co-stars are? Sometimes I have to remind myself it is work.
“I’m naturally a very sexual person and I’ve always been attracted to the barbie look, big boobs and blonde hair. So being a porn star really just feels like home to me. I definitely feel a sense of belonging with sex work that I don’t get from other areas of work. For once I feel like I fit in.”
She added: “I had no hesitation at the start. I’m the type to act now and think about the consequences later. It’s a lot more safer and regulated than what I was expecting in regards to how often we test and such.
“Despite having more sexual partners I feel much safer in that all my partners are tested every few days which is certainly something I never had in my vanilla life.”
