When Pakita the dog went missing 3 years ago, her dad was left harrowed and terrified. The man felt powerless as he searched for her everywhere, only to get his hopes dampened over and over. However, he never gave up on her and continued looking for her across shelters – until his efforts were finally rewarded.
Three years later, Dad was thrilled to find out that Pakita was alive and in a far off shelter, where she had been living a rather aloof and gloomy life for the past 3 years. But when he arrived at the shelter to take her home, Pakita’s reaction was not what he had expected, writes ilovemydog.
The years of separation and a rough shelter life had clearly taken a toll on Pakita. The depressed pooch only trusted her caretakers and refused to have a good look at Dad. She didn’t recognize him at all and whimpered to find a strange new human approaching her.
Dad understood Pakita’s stress-induced skittish body language, and coaxed her to come closer. Pakita hesitated, but Dad crouched and called out to her and that pushed her to go ahead and sniff him – and it was a major bolt from the blue for her! She began recognizing his smell and gradually realized her dear long-lost dad had returned to take her home!
